Job Summary

Business analysts/systems analysts are responsible for discovering the underlying business needs for a product or project by elicitation of the business requirements, often through conversations with the stakeholders. Responsibilities include conducting joint application requirements (JAR) sessions and joint application development (JAD) sessions; documenting requirements and use cases/business flows and ensuring the requirements map to business needs; organizing, specifying, and modeling the requirements to ensure they are complete.

The business analysts’ primary objective is helping stakeholders implement technology solutions in a cost-effective way by determining the requirements of a project or program, and communicating them clearly to the stakeholders. Business analysts help with building new software systems, modifying existing software systems, or migrating from one software system to another. Business analysts serve as the mediator between the technical and business end of the stakeholders.

Necessary Qualifications/Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to elicit requirements using joint application requirements sessions, data analysis, business process descriptions, use cases, business analysis, and workflow analysis
  • Ability to analyze information and situations, identify and solve problems, and draw effective conclusions
  • Ability to develop effective solutions
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, and direct teams
  • Ability to develop document artifacts according to documentation standards
  • Solid analytical and technical skills including modeling techniques and methods
