Dental & Vision Benefits for Retirees
Open Enrollment Notice
2026 Open Enrollment is September 14 to October 9. Eligible State and California State University retirees can make changes to sponsored dental and vision coverage. Eligible Public Agency Medicare retirees can also select a CalPERS Medicare health plan that offers optional dental and/or vision coverage. All changes made during Open Enrollment take effect January 1, 2027.
Dental and vision benefits are administered differently depending on whether you retired from the State of California, California State University (CSU), or a Public Agency. Some CalPERS Medicare health plans also offer optional dental and/or vision benefits for an additional fee. Use the sections below to find the contact and plan information that applies to you.

Optional Dental and Vision Benefits Through Medicare Health Plans
Certain CalPERS Medicare health plans offer optional dental benefits, vision benefits, or both for an additional fee. These optional benefits are called dental or vision riders.
Who's Eligible
You may be eligible for optional dental or vision benefits if all of the following apply:
- You retired from a Public Agency
- You’re enrolled in or eligible for a CalPERS Medicare health plan that offers optional dental or vision benefits
- You select the health plan option that includes dental, vision, or both
Eligibility and the benefits offered vary by health plan. These optional benefits aren’t available to State of California or CSU retirees. If you retired from the State or CSU, refer to the Dental and Vision Benefits Based on Where You Retired section.
Premiums and Billing
The additional premium is billed directly by the health plan or dental or vision plan. It is separate from your CalPERS health premium.
Access the health premiums for the plans on the Plans & Rates (Retirees) webpage.
