Board Elections
The California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) Board of Administration consists of 13 members who are elected, appointed, or hold office ex officio for four-year terms. The decisions they make impact all active and retired members.
2025 Member-at-Large Election Overview
Voting closed at 11:59 p.m. on September 29. No further voting is allowed.
All eligible active and retired members (excluding survivors and beneficiaries) of CalPERS were eligible to vote for the two representatives in Position A and Position B.
Tabulation – Counting the Ballots
All returned voting envelopes were scanned and secured at 7720 Hardeson Road, Suite B, Everett, WA, 98203. At 9:00 a.m. PT on September 30, 2025, the sealed, signed, and returned envelopes containing the voted ballots were opened and processed at the Everett, Washington, location. Public viewing was allowed.
The tabulation process for all votes was held at The Embassy Suites, 100 Capitol Mall, Sacramento, CA 95814 at 9:00 a.m. The public was permitted to view of the process.
Election Results
David Miller and Troy Johnson were declared the unofficial election winners for the Member-at-Large seats on the CalPERS Board of Administration, with Miller being re-elected for his third term.
Position A Vote Count for Each Candidate
- Steve Mermell – received 34,319 votes, or 24.13%
- Dominick Bei – received 31,201 votes, or 21.94%
- David Miller – received 76,705 votes, or 53.93%
Position B Vote Count for Each Candidate
- Sam Hasan Akkad – received 21,293 votes, or 15.08%
- Troy Johnson – received 73,787 votes, or 52.25%
- Jose Luis Pacheco – received 46,128 votes, or 32.67%
Election results are considered unofficial until certified by the California Secretary of State, which is expected to occur in or around November.
The term of the incumbents, David Miller and Jose Luis Pacheco, will expire on January 15, 2026. The new term of office will begin January 16, 2026, and end January 15, 2030.
