"Normal" Retirement Age in myCalPERS

myCalPERS will display the “normal" retirement age (from the member's retirement benefit formula) of active and inactive members and retirees. If a member has two retirement formulas, the formula with the higher age will be used.

For example: The normal retirement age for a member with the 2% at 55 benefit formula would be age 55. If the member has more than one retirement benefit formula, the normal retirement age would be their maximum formula retirement age – up to age 62.

The following letters have been updated to include a notation regarding normal retirement age:

  • Retired Annuitant Letter (myCalPERS 2764)
  • Retirement Acknowledgment Letter to Participant (myCalPERS 0964)
  • First Payment Acknowledgement Letter (myCalPERS 0924)

Health Enrollment File (IA50031) – Error Messages and Provider Field Updates

For business partners who utilize the IA50031 Health Enrollment file to submit health enrollment transactions, the following enhancements have been made:

  1. Improved error messages will be provided in response to submitted Health Enrollment files, to better identify who the errors are intended for and where the discrepancy exists (i.e., subscriber vs dependents; name vs date of birth).
  2. Medical provider information can now be submitted on the IA50031 file that will then pass to the carriers, to help maintain doctor assignment for members and their dependents when they enroll or change plans.

Enhanced Guest Health Plan Search by ZIP Code Tool

The Guest Health Plan Search by ZIP Code tool now allows all agencies and their employees to include a doctor or specialist in their health plan search on the CalPERS website without having to log in to myCalPERS.

This allows anyone, including prospective employers and members, to see what CalPERS health plans their doctor accepts. Additionally, public agencies may use this tool to make a more informed decision when deciding whether to contract with CalPERS for health benefits.
