Help us serve you better by creating your health demographic profile

Why It’s Important

Everyone deserves the opportunity to live the healthiest life possible. By taking less than five minutes to complete your Health Demographic Profile in myCalPERS, you’re helping us better understand our members and improve quality of care and health outcomes for all.

We want to ensure that care is equitable and individualized for all members, regardless of race, ethnicity, language, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

To achieve this, we need demographic data from our membership to understand where health inequities exist. Your response will help us identify disparities, deliver high-quality, member-centered care, and improve outcomes.

We’ll use the data from the Health Demographic Profiles to help identify if health care access, preventive care, treatment, or outcomes are different based on a member’s race, ethnicity, language, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

If we observe disparities, we’ll work closely with our health plans to make changes and close the gaps to inequitable care.

Health equity is giving members the health care they need when they need it and providing care that doesn’t vary in quality because of a member’s demographics.

Achieving health equity begins with understanding the diversity of our membership by collecting demographic information. From there, we can work to eliminate health disparities among our members and ensure they get high-quality care.

We’ll use the demographic profile data to first examine colon cancer screening rates based on members’ race and ethnicity.

We plan to look at colon cancer screening because it’s a leading cause of cancer death, and it’s been researched and documented in medical literature that known disparities exist in colon cancer screening for specific populations.

If we observe differences, we‘ll work with the health plans to provide targeted outreach to groups that have a lower screening rate.

There are proven strategies to close these gaps. As more profiles are completed, we’ll work to identify additional health disparities like in breast cancer screenings or diabetes care and take actions to eliminate them.
