Interim Chief Compliance Officer

Warren Astleford was named the interim chief compliance officer in August 2021. 

In his new position, Warren is responsible for all aspects of the CalPERS compliance program, including responsibility for administering a comprehensive compliance and oversight program consistent with industry guidelines. He also provides executive leadership and counsel to the CalPERS Board of Administration and the executive team.

Warren brings more than 30 years of legal experience and over 25 years of state of California employment experience to CalPERS. He's been an attorney in private practice, an attorney with the California Board of Equalization, and served as an attorney at CalPERS over the past 17 years. He has served in many legal leadership roles throughout the organization, including health operations, pensions, and investment-related legal services. 

Warren holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from California State University, Sacramento, and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.
