Private Markets

Anton Orlich first joined CalPERS in 2013 and served in various leadership roles before being named deputy chief investment officer of private markets in June 2026. Anton works closely with CalPERS’ chief investment officer and overseas private equity, private credit, real estate, infrastructure, and other alternative investment programs.

Prior to that, Anton served as managing investment director of private equity at CalPERS from 2022 to 2026 and was interim managing investment director at private debt from 2024 to 2025. His CalPERS career began when he served as a portfolio manager for private equity from 2013 to 2016.

During his time away from CalPERS, Anton worked as head of alternative investments for Kaiser Permanente from 2019 to 2022.

Anton holds a bachelor's degree, summa cum laude, in economics from Columbia College in New York and a PhD in political science from Yale University. He is also a Harry S. Truman Scholar, a Yale Prize Teaching Fellow, a Kauffman Fellow, and a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst charterholder. He serves on the board of directors for the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA) and on the National Advisory Board for Girls with Impact (GWI). Orlich is a U.S. Navy veteran and served in Afghanistan.
