Enhancement to Online Health Enrollment Notifications – Multiple Designated Contacts

May 19, 2025
Circular Letter: 600-018-25
Topic: Health Benefits

To: All CalPERS Health Benefits Officers and Assistant Health Benefits Officers

Purpose

The purpose of this Circular Letter is to inform you of new functionality that allows employers to create an Online Health Enrollment Notification List in myCalPERS. This enhancement provides the option for multiple designated contacts to receive notifications of health enrollment changes that originate from Online Health Enrollments submitted by their active employees.

Background

Currently, Online Health Enrollment notifications for active employees are sent to the email address designated as the primary health benefits officer. This limitation has presented challenges for employers, as it concentrates communication and workload to one individual.

You Asked, We Listened

In response to your feedback, we are introducing a new Online Health Enrollment Notification List feature that allows agencies to designate up to twenty contacts in myCalPERS. This feature can be fully customized to those requiring enrollment change notifications. All contacts within the notification list will receive an email notification for pending Online Health Enrollment transactions that require review.

Employer Responsibilities

Employers are responsible for managing and maintaining their Online Health Enrollment Notification List in myCalPERS. To ensure accuracy and timely delivery of health enrollment notifications, system access administrators should:

  • Ensure all listed email addresses are accurate and current in myCalPERS.
  • Maintain the Online Health Enrollment Notification List by adding or removing contacts as changes occur.

Creating a notification list is optional. If your agency prefers to continue receiving Online Health Enrollment notifications through the designated primary health benefits officer, no changes are necessary. However, we encourage agencies to consider using this new feature to enhance communication and ensure timely follow-up.
