Profile
Monica Erickson is serving her first term on the CalPERS Board of Administration. She was appointed Director of the California Department of Human Resources in October 2025 by Governor Gavin Newsom.
As Director of CalHR, Monica oversees the state agency responsible for human resource management of California's state employees, including issues related to employee salaries and benefits, job classifications, civil rights, training, exams, recruitment and retention.
Monica brings more than 30 years of state service to her role. Previously she served as Chief Deputy Director of the California Department of Human Resources from 2023 to 2025. Before that she was Deputy Director of Administration at the Office of Health Care Access and Information from 2015 to 2023, where she managed fiscal and administrative operations.
From 2012 to 2015 Monica served as Budget Officer at the Department of Social Services. She spent 13 years at the Department of Finance from 1999 to 2012, holding multiple positions including Principal Program Budget Analyst and Budget Analyst, where she developed expertise in state fiscal policy and budget development.
