Deputy Chief Investment Officer,
Private Markets

Daniel Booth assumed the role of deputy chief investment officer, private markets, in April 2023.

He’s responsible for all private market investment strategies, including asset allocation. Additionally, he works closely with the CalPERS Chief Investment Officer (CIO), and the CalPERS Investment Office’s managing investment directors to lead investment decision-making across the Private Equity, Real Assets, and Private Debt asset classes.

Prior to CalPERS, Daniel was a senior advisor for the UK Infrastructure Bank, a new UK policy bank aimed at assisting with the required UK infrastructure for the energy transition. His prior work experience includes CIO duties at Border to Coast, the largest UK public sector pension plan, as well as head of portfolio management and head of alternatives at Saudi Aramco. In his earlier career he was an alternative investment director at Prime Capital and FERI in Germany and a hedge fund portfolio manager in London, UK.

Daniel graduated from the University of Southampton with a bachelor of science degree in economic & business economics and is a CAIA charter holder.
