Commitment to small business and disabled veteran business partners
SACRAMENTO, CA - The California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) was the recipient of three awards for efforts and commitment to contracting with small businesses and disabled veteran business enterprise communities at the 16th Annual California State Agency Recognition Awards ceremony.
The event is hosted annually by the Governor's Office, and the departments of General Services and Veteran Affairs. CalPERS received three finalist awards and one Advocate of the Year bronze award.
CalPERS received a finalist award for Agency of the Year, a distinction CalPERS has won for the past three years; a bronze Advocate of the Year award to Lynette Hall, CalPERS small business and disabled veteran business advocate; and the Richard G. Polanco Diversity Outreach Award for demonstrating diversity in outreach efforts. CalPERS also had the distinction of nominating the recipient of the John K. Lopez award that recognizes a disabled veteran business enterprise for excellence and commitment to the disabled veteran business enterprise community. The recipient nominated by CalPERS was Global Blue DVBE, Inc. Through encouragement by a CalPERS advocate, Global Blue successfully bid to become a member of CalPERS' information technology spring-fed pool, and then went on to be awarded a contract with CalPERS. In addition to this success, Global Blue mentors other disabled veteran business enterprises.
"We are very honored to receive this recognition," said Doug Hoffner, Deputy Executive Officer for Operations and Technology. "Diversity and inclusion have evolved into an essential part of the CalPERS culture and have come to define how we conduct ourselves and our business."
For more than eight decades, CalPERS has built retirement and health security for state, school, and public agency members who invest their lifework in public service.
