Dan Bienvenue joined CalPERS in September 2004 and served as portfolio manager and senior portfolio manager in Internal Equity prior to his appointment to managing investment director in Global Equity in 2014. He is responsible for implementation and management of investment strategy and policy for the Fund's approximately $150 billion portfolio in publicly traded equity investments worldwide, and also has overall management accountability for the $14 billion in Affiliated Trusts. Global Equity also houses an integrated corporate governance function within the team, including responsibility for proxy voting, corporate engagement, and shareholder campaigns. Dan directs more than 60 internal Global Equity staff, along with external advisors and consultants who manage domestic and international equity assets for CalPERS.

Prior to CalPERS, Dan was a principal and senior portfolio manager with Barclays Global Investors (BGI), leading an international equity portfolio management team responsible for $55 billion across developed and emerging markets. Before BGI, his work experience includes sales and trading in the analyst program with J.P. Morgan Securities in New York, as well as two years as a high school teacher of economics and Spanish.

Dan graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor's degree in economics, cum laude, from the University of California, Davis, where he was an Academic All-American in wrestling. He also holds both the CFA and CAIA charters.
