Board Term:

Upon election as California state controller

Betty T. Yee is serving her first term on the CalPERS Board of Administration. She became state controller in January 2015, following two terms of service on the California Board of Equalization.

She has nearly 35 years of experience in public service, specializing in state and local finance, and tax policy.

As the state's chief financial officer, Betty is responsible for accountability and disbursement of the state's financial resources, and administering payroll for state government and CSU employees. She has independent auditing authority over government agencies that spend state funds and she safeguards many types of unclaimed property until the rightful owners can be found.

Betty chairs the Franchise Tax Board and serves as an ex-officio member on the California State Teachers' Retirement System board. As a member of the State Lands Commission (and chairperson in even-numbered years), she provides stewardship for the management and protection of California's natural and cultural resources.

She has served as chief deputy director for budget with the California Department of Finance. Before that, she served in senior staff positions for several fiscal and policy committees in both houses of the state Legislature.

Betty is one of only 10 women in California history to be elected to a statewide constitutional office.

A native of San Francisco, she received her bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of California, Berkeley, and holds a master's degree in public administration.
