Long-Term Care Benefits

CalPERS is now accepting applications for long-term care coverage. Visit the CalPERS Long-Term Care  website, or call (800) 908-9119, to learn more about CalPERS Long-Term Care (LTC) Program coverage options and to download or request an application kit.

The CalPERS LTC Program helps to protect assets and lifestyles against the catastrophic cost of receiving long-term care services. The program is voluntary and not-for-profit, and is not an employer-paid benefit. The program is available to California public employees and retirees, as well as their spouses, parents, parents-in-law, adult children and adult siblings between the ages of 18 and 79. Applicants do not have to participate in CalPERS retirement or health benefit programs to apply. Eligible family members may apply even if the public employee or retiree that makes them eligible does not apply for coverage or is not approved for coverage.

A catastrophic accident or disability can occur at any age and commercial health plans and Medicare do not provide extended care. Each LTC plan option offers a variety of daily benefit and total coverage amounts and flexibility on how the benefits are used. Members of the program can receive benefits for covered services anywhere in the nation.
