Health Plan ChooserThe Pacific Business Group on Health’s (PBGH) Health Plan Chooser is an online tool that provides a convenient way to evaluate your health plan options and make an educated decision about which plan is best for you and your family. You can weigh plan benefits and costs, search for specific doctors, and view overall plan satisfaction and quality ratings.
Use the Chooser if:

You want to find a new health plan during Open Enrollment

You want to change a primary care doctor or find a new specialist

You are a new employee and want to evaluate health plan options

Your employer just began offering the CalPERS Health Program, and you need to choose a plan

Your marital status or enrollment area changed

You are planning for retirement and want to explore your health plan options

You become eligible for Medicare

You want to review your plan’s covered services

You want to find out if your medication is on your plan's formulary list
The Chooser does not "choose" a health plan for you, but takes you through five steps that provide you with key information about each health plan. At each step, you can rate how well the plans fit your needs. When you finish, the Chooser gives you a Results Summary chart highlighting the plan(s) you rated as the best fit in each category. This chart allows you to easily determine which plans meet your needs.
Please note that if you are a State active or retired member, the Chooser will help you find the employer contribution. If you are a contracting public agency or school member, please contact your current (or former, if you are retired) employer’s Human Resources Department.
